Bathroom Wastes – BLOG – Jan 2022
This is a very frustrating issue and problem for householders and recently I was called to the home of a relative to fix this problem. After I removed the stuck down pop up waste plug or stopper, the cause of the problem was immediately obvious. The brass spring fitting below was blocked and no longer working due to the build-up of soap residue, scum and other contaminants.
This issue does occur from time to time and reasons, include the following:
- A build up of soap, scum and other contaminants, in and on the spring loaded brass mechanism below the plug or stopper (As previously mentioned)
- Build up of the same contaminants around and on the washer installed within the stopper or plug itself
- Spring failure - A major problem with inferior quality plug and wastes (Rarely an issue with Tilo Brand Pop Up Plug and Wastes that comprise heavy duty stainless steel springs)
- Lack of regular maintenance - Cleaning etc
